Minneapolis Vintage Market returns to Sociable Cider this Sunday.

Jenny in the City Store Closing: Clothing and gift shop, Jenny in the City, has announced it will be closing its France Ave location. In an Instagram post, they note the economic downturn (and competition from instant-gratification, fast-fashion retailers) Their last day open will be Sunday, August 18, and they'll celebrate with a final Girl's Day Out event that day. Sven Clogs 50th Anniversary Trunk Show + Custom Clog Event: Edina boutique Serge + Jane is launching their own custom clog design for Minnesota-based Sven Clogs with a launch party. The party doubles as a 50th anniversary celebration for Sven Clogs, which will also host a trunk show at the store during the event. Fusion: The Art of Adornment & Mixed Media Closing Reception: Wearable art and mixed-media artwork come together in this fashion-forward exhibition from jewelry artist and designer Susan Horowitz and artists Pario Max and Barbara Belknap. It celebrates the dynamic interplay between the artists’ respective mediums while exploring texture, form and material. Mends & Friends at Moth Oddities: Do you have a growing pile of clothes that you love but “just need a little fix” before you can wear them again? Then head to vintage shop Moth Oddities as it hosts Mends & Friends, a casual happy hour for friends to mend together at the shop’s adjoining studio space. Hermine Soft Opening: Downtown Minneapolis is getting its first vintage shop with this weekend's opening of Hermine. Founded by husband-and-wife couple Lilly Alexander and Willy Schwartz, the shop is an offshoot of Goodshop Badshop, the duo's popular online vintage store. Like GSBS, Hermine will emphasis quality craftsmanship and timeless designs, including primarily natural fibers like linen, silk, wool and cotton, and it will carry a mix of men's and women's vintage apparel, accessories and home decor, as well as a special assortment from my very own Rosella Vintage. The shop will eventually host a series of creative workshops and community events centered around sustainable fashion practices including upcycling. A grand opening event is slated for August 2 from 5–8pm with live music, refreshments, light bites and giveaways. Since its humble beginnings as an open studio crawl of Northeast Minneapolis' many artist buildings in 1996, Art-A-Whirl has grown and evolved exponentially. Presented by Northeast Minneapolis Arts Association (NEMAA), this year’s 29th annual art festival is still a great way to support local artists and makers. For the purposes of this newsletter, events highlighted will focus around style and shopping events happening throughout the annual Northeast Minneapolis arts festival, including studio openings, makers markets and vintage pop-ups.

Art in Bloom at Mia: One of the Twin Cities’ rites of spring is the Minneapolis Institute of Art’s Art in Bloom event, in which classical works of art have served as the inspiration for floral arrangements for more than 30 years. The event features imaginative floral interpretations of selected works of art from Mia’s permanent collection, created by more than 100 individual and commercial florists with flowers from Bachman’s. U of MN Apparel Design Collective 24-Hour Exhibition: As Fashion Week MN approaches, the Goldstein Museum of Design has been working with the College of Design’s Apparel Design Collective to plan an event in conjunction with their latest exhibition, Firsthand. On the evening of Monday, April 15, students will showcase the process and craft of their own work (from swatches and moodboards to sketches and prototypes) in a special 24-hour installation spanning the McNeal Hall atrium and Apparel Design studios. Fashion Week MN: Spring 2024: After a season off last fall, Fashion Week MN is back with a fresh lineup of spring runway shows. For the first time presented and executive produced by the Fashion Week MN team, this year’s shows emphasize sustainability, equity and inclusion with events ranging to the returning favorite I AM FABULOUS fashion show featuring 60+ year-old models to Into the Studio, which showcases local designers with sustainability at the heart of their brands. Earth Month Maker Spotlight: Ellekin: Created by Keyona Elkins in 2022, Ellekin is a sustainability-focused fashion brand that creates fun women’s clothing in sizes XS–3X—with each piece under $100. This month, the brand is celebrating Earth Month with a new series of eco-friendly fashion educational videos on TikTok and Instagram, as well as a new product line of made-to-order, semi-custom embroidered pieces starting with organic cotton tees, available on her website. Earth Month Retail Spotlight: Bad Little Woman Vintage: It doesn’t get much more sustainable than shopping vintage. After selling online since 2014, local vintage brand Bad Little Woman Vintage opened its first retail storefront last summer in White Bear Lake. The shop sells a mix of dresses, denim, blouses, jewelry, handbags and collectibles as well as men’s vintage tees, Hawaiian shirts and Western shirts with an emphasis on the 1960s and 1970s, restocking weekly. The store reopens this week after a month hiatus in which they moved into a new storefront on the main level within the same building. Galleria Floral Experience with Bachman's: Since 1960, spring has brought the Twin Cities a floral experience—for decades, at the downtown Minneapolis Dayton's flagship. Over the past few years, it has taken new form at Edina shopping center, Galleria, with longtime Dayton's floral show partner, Bachman's Florals. Luxe Streetwear presents The Rubik's Cube: Producer-designer Keiona Cook is back with her semi-annual Luxe Streetwear fashion show fundraiser. The show raises funds for her nonprofit, Lovely’s Sewing & Arts Collective, which provides sewing instruction to kids and adults, while promoting sustainability by encouraging repair and upcycling of clothing.
