Firsthand: Contemporary Craft in Context: With more than 75 items on display from across the Twin Cities and beyond, this loan-based exhibition showcases leather shoes, woolen knitwear, thrown pottery, ceramic tiles, and youth-built boats. Art in Bloom at Mia: One of the Twin Cities’ rites of spring is the Minneapolis Institute of Art’s Art in Bloom event, in which classical works of art have served as the inspiration for floral arrangements for more than 30 years. The event features imaginative floral interpretations of selected works of art from Mia’s permanent collection, created by more than 100 individual and commercial florists with flowers from Bachman’s. The floral festival is on view all weekend, and you can also enjoy a lecture or demonstration or free docent tours. Shibori with Indigo Class: Learn a variety of Shibori folding techniques to create brilliant patterns with indigo-dyed textiles in this class hosted by the Toolbox Collective. Using wood boards, clips, rubber bands and other items to fold fabric into different shapes, attendees will dip the fabric into indigo dye and watch the pattern develop as it hits the air. Class fee includes two tea towels to dye, but you can bring additional white items to dye. Hand Mending Basics + Earth Week Mending Lounge: Mending a wardrobe doesn't always require a machine. Learn the basics of hand mending at this class hosted by sewing studio RETHINK Tailoring, so you can rescue and repair your own wardrobe.
