French Eyewear Event @ InVision: InVision's North Loop location is hosting an event dedicated to French eyewear. Featured designers include Dilem; known for their innovative modular designs, their new frame collection features new and classic shapes and gorgeous textures. Also on hand will be Oxibis, whose glasses are small-batch crafted and hand-painted in Jura, the birthplace of French eyewear. XIT frames are known for their bright hues, bold European shapes and funky asymmetrical frames. Lovely's Sewing Open House: Lovely's Sewing and Arts Collective was founded in 2009 by fashion designer Keiona Cook to connect the community using sewing as the foundation The nonprofit recently moved to a new, larger space in the North Loop, where they're offering youth and adult sewing classes and workshops. Northrup King Nights: This open-studio event at the largest artist building in Minnesota offers a chance to browse works from hundreds of artists. The event includes special guests from the Minnesota Jewelry Arts Guild (MNJAG) featured in the building’s 3rd floor gallery. Wintercraft will also be sharing their stunning ice luminaries. Art Shanty Projects 2023: Inspired by pop-up ice fishing villages, the annual Art Shanty Projects tasks artists to use a frozen lake as a public platform to create a temporary, interactive community. A highlight of this year’s event is sure to be Climate Walk on Ice, in which local performance artists the Fashion Disasters represent climate catastrophes in vibrant, moving forms with an over-the-top, upcycled fashion show, a climate solidarity anthem and a climate walk on ice with local environmental activists. Minneapolis Vintage Market January: The monthly MVM is back, and this time at a new venue: the Glass House in Minneapolis—the headquarters for glass blowing studio Hennepin Made, an artist residence and private event space. Community Supported Art 2023: Springboard for the Arts is once again partnering with MN Center for Book Arts, Bench Pressed Letterpress, Bruno Press, Creative Handmade Goods and artists from Springboard’s Ready Made program for Community Supported Art—a CSA for local art. Choose from three boxes of artwork, each one curated by the partner organizations and featuring handcrafted artwork by local makers. Shares cost $350, which means a CSA box full of locally crafted art will be delivered to you in February, March and April 2023. Coming soon: Vivid Home: A home furnishings and interior design business is moving into a historic North Loop building formerly known as the International Design Center later this month. Like its previous iteration at Bryn Mawr (as Vivid Interior Design and REVĪV Boutique), the new space will be rebranded as Vivid Home and include both home furnishings for sale with an expanded assortment of luxury furnishings and décor, along with a design studio. Ready or Hot: Fashion Meets Passion for Planned Parenthood: Planned Parenthood’s annual fundraiser fashion show returns for the first time since 2020 to gather its supporters for an evening of fashion and music at the most iconic music venue in town—First Avenue. Olio Vintage: New vintage collective store, Olio Vintage, is a unique collective of specialty vintage retailers brought together under one roof in Northeast Minneapolis. Black Garnet Books: The only Black-owned bookstore in Minnesota, community member Dionne Sims launched Black Garnet Books two years ago online in direct response to state violence and to address racial inequality within the publishing and literary industries.
