Plus-size vintage launches at Strey Collective
Plus-size vintage is notoriously hard to find. (There’s a lot of speculation as to why, but it’s definitely a challenge.) Fortunately, Strey Collective is now a resource for plus-size vintage, thanks to local vintage brand Harlow James. Its owner, Sierra Morris, has switched out her assortment at the designer cooperative space to showcase exclusively plus-size vintage clothing. Known for her selection of vintage denim, the seller will also have a great selection of plus-size vintage denim on her rack, with sizes ranging from a 28 waist through a 48 waist. Plus, for the month of February, Harlow James is also offering $5 off each purchase of its selection at Strey. United Goods launches TV Show Prints series
Local illustrator and maker United Goods has just released a spin-off collection that’s a slight departure from the mini framed illustrations of U.S. landmarks she typically draws. The new series is called TV Show Prints, and features iconic buildings and signs from popular television series including The Golden Girls, Ted Lasso, Schitt’s Creek, Friends, Stranger Things, Letterkenny, Seinfeld, Arrested Development, Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, Squid Game and Dallas. Homecoming Queen: Guided Curator's Tour
Curator Brian Dukerschein in the gallery for an intimate tour of Homecoming Queen: The Wonderful World of Utica Queen, a 4,000-square-foot exhibition showcasing the artistry of Minnesota native and drag performer Ethan Mundt, star of Season 13 of RuPaul’s Drag Race. STRIKKEKOS: The Cozy Norwegian Mitten Knitting Showcase
This winter, Norway House is celebrating the art of hand-knit mittens with an exhibition. It features around 30 different Norwegian and Nordic mitten styles made by volunteer knitters from across the Midwest, based on mitten designs from Nina Granlund Sæther’s book, Mittens From Around Norway. Plus, take part in an interactive textile wall and bring your own projects along to be featured in an online blog. NUBI Ultimate Runway Fashion Show
Tickets have just been announced for NUBI Ultimate Runway, an annual fashion show featuring the designs of local label Nubi Collections by BothDol, founded by Ethiopian-turned-Minnesota designer EliNyamal Both. After nearly a decade at its storefront on St. Paul’s West 7th Street, the Bearded Mermaid has moved its digs about 40 miles south to Northfield. The vintage shop became known for its unique twist on vintage—one part antique roadshow, one part treasure hunt, one part art gallery. After suffering a damaging fire last fall, longtime Mid Century Modern vintage home store, MidModMen+friends, finally reopens this weekend.
