The Mustache Cat Opening Day
After purchasing a 1918 craftsman house in the Mac-Grove neighborhood about ten years ago, Rebecca Sansone was inspired tot fill her home with unique pieces and bringing things back to their former glory. So about six months ago, she left her corporate job to start The Mustache Cat, a new home goods shop that opens in St. Paul this week. The Mustache Cat carries a mix of vintage and new items handmade by local makers or created by small, woman-owned businesses, like resin trays and coasters by local maker New Street Co. They're also introducing a novel return policy for their vintage items: return any vintage decor item purchased from the shop under $100 in similar condition for a discount on a new-to-you item. Mill City Farmers Winter Market
A mainstay since 2006, the Mill City Farmers Market has moved indoors to the Mill City Museum lobby for the season on select Saturdays through April. Each event features 30 to 40 local farmers, food makers and artisans with a goal of building a local, sustainable and organic food economy. This weekend’s artisan highlights include Crankosaurus Press handprinted textiles and home goods, Fair Anita fair-trade accessories, Radiate Activewear and Red Clover Herbal Apothecary Farm. Market Collective MN Makers Market
Led by local maker Chingona Goods, Market Collective MN is a new market collective that prioritizes BIPOC and queer vendors and allies. Harlow James Plus-Size Vintage @ Strey Collective
Plus-size vintage is notoriously hard to find. (There’s a lot of speculation as to why, but it’s definitely a challenge.) Fortunately, Strey Collective is now a resource for plus-size vintage, thanks to local vintage brand Harlow James. Its owner, Sierra Morris, has switched out her assortment at the designer cooperative space to showcase exclusively plus-size vintage clothing. Known for her selection of vintage denim, the seller will also have a great selection of plus-size vintage denim on her rack, with sizes ranging from a 28 waist through a 48 waist. Homecoming Queen: The Wonderful World of Utica Queen
Homecoming Queen invites visitors to explore the wonderful world of Utica Queen, star of Season 13 of RuPaul’s Drag Race and a fixture of the local drag scene. The exhibition features garments, accessories and original design sketches by Ethan Mundt (Utica Queen), editorial photographs of the Drag Race alum by photographers Ben Seagren, Dan Little, Eric Magnussen, Liam James and Trevor Beaty, and a short documentary highlighting Mundt’s background and creative process by Tatyana Kurepina. This first-of-its-kind 4,000-square-foot drag fashion and photography exhibition will include immersive virtual gallery accessible to visitors worldwide. NUBI Ultimate Runway Fashion Show
Tickets have just been announced for NUBI Ultimate Runway, an annual fashion show featuring the designs of local label Nubi Collections by BothDol, founded by Ethiopian-turned-Minnesota designer EliNyamal Both. Produced by Richard Moody, this year's runway theme is the historical fashion of the Nubian/Kush Empire, and proceeds benefit Kenyan refugee camp, Kakuma Camp. After nearly a decade at its storefront on St. Paul’s West 7th Street, the Bearded Mermaid has moved its digs about 40 miles south to Northfield. The vintage shop became known for its unique twist on vintage—one part antique roadshow, one part treasure hunt, one part art gallery. The new store will stock a lot of favorites, like vintage wool sweaters, winter coats and sweatshirts. After suffering a damaging fire last fall, longtime Mid Century Modern vintage home store, MidModMen+friends, finally reopens this weekend.
