First Thursday at Northrup King Building
The First Thursday of the year is a great opportunity to take home one-of-a-kind treasures, just in time for Valentine’s Day. First Thursdays are part of a long tradition of monthly events at the Northrup King Building—the largest building of artist studios in the state of Minnesota—which opens for the public to tour studios, meet the artists, and shop the art. Style highlights include Strey Collective, a cooperative boutique featuring goods from a collective of local fashion makers (#179), milliner Celina Kane with her latest headwear for the holidays (#225) and Larissa Loden jewelry (#265). Maxine Bédat: The Life and Death of a Garment
Learn about the environmental impacts as clothing goes from fiber to retail and ultimately disposal from Maxine Bédat during this Master Class that’s part of the Great Northern Festival. Along with providing the latest information on the negative impacts of our clothing, the Master Class will introduce the actions that we—as citizens, media or brands small and large—can take to address them and do our part to create a thriving industry that co-exists within our environment. Bédat is the founder and director of New Standard Institute, a think and do tank using data to drive accountability in industry. She is also the co-founder of Zady, a fashion brand crating a transparent and sustainable future for the apparel industry. The event will be followed by a Q&A with Bédat. Bearded Mermaid Grand Opening:
After nearly a decade at its storefront on St. Paul’s West 7th Street, the Bearded Mermaid has moved its digs about 40 miles south to Northfield. The vintage shop became known for its unique twist on vintage—one part antique roadshow, one part treasure hunt, one part art gallery. The new store will stock a lot of favorites, like vintage wool sweaters, winter coats and sweatshirts. Opening weekend 2/4–2/6. MidModMen+friends Reopening Weekend
After suffering a damaging fire last fall, longtime Mid Century Modern vintage home store, MidModMen+friends, finally reopens this weekend. The enhanced space will include never-before-seen inventory, including restored Mid Century Modern furniture pieces and new, MCM-inspired items made by a local furniture maker. They’ve also added more original artwork, studio pottery and lighting by local and regional artists, and vintage art glass. Market Collective MN: Local Makers Market 
Led by local maker Chingona Goods, Market Collective MN is a new market collective that prioritizes BIPOC and queer vendors and allies. Bachman's Winter Farmers Market
Winter Farmers Markets are back at Bachman’s. Enjoy farm-fresh foods and support your community growers at the same time! Mending 101
Lauren Callis of An Upcycled Closet and Curiosity Studio is hosting her first mending classes of the year at Curiosity Studio’s new location. Saturday’s Mending 101 will teach you basic stitching, patching and darning methods to repair your garments. Previous sewing skills not required. The Fitting Room's Resort Fashion Show & Pop-up
View resort collections by local clothing and accessories designers from The Fitting Room boutique during this fashion show held at the Center for Performing Arts. Then following the show, shop all the collections right off the runway. Sundry. Multidimensional Design Opening Reception
Senior designers from the university’s apparel design program will have their work displayed within the Rapson Courtyard during this reception. Be the first to see these projects on display and hear about the students’ process and inspiration before the work goes on display at the Minneapolis Central Library. The projects explore sundry topics including gender fluidity, circular design, adaptability and technical construction, while seeking the possibilities of fashion within a rapidly evolving industry. STRIKKEKOS: The Cozy Norwegian Mitten Knitting Showcase
This winter, Norway House is celebrating the art of hand-knit mittens with an exhibition. It features around 30 different Norwegian and Nordic mitten styles made by volunteer knitters from across the Midwest, based on mitten designs from Nina Granlund Sæther’s book, Mittens From Around Norway. Plus, take part in an interactive textile wall and bring your own projects along to be featured in an online blog. Homecoming Queen: The Wonderful World of Utica Queen
Homecoming Queen invites visitors to explore the wonderful world of Utica Queen, star of Season 13 of RuPaul’s Drag Race and a fixture of the local drag scene. The exhibition features garments, accessories and original design sketches by Ethan Mundt (Utica Queen), editorial photographs of the Drag Race alum by photographers Ben Seagren, Dan Little, Eric Magnussen, Liam James and Trevor Beaty, and a short documentary highlighting Mundt’s background and creative process by Tatyana Kurepina. This first-of-its-kind 4,000-square-foot drag fashion and photography exhibition will include immersive virtual gallery accessible to visitors worldwide. Tickets have just been announced for NUBI Ultimate Runway, an annual fashion show featuring the designs of local label Nubi Collections by BothDol, founded by Ethiopian-turned-Minnesota designer EliNyamal Both.
