Stephanie Dillon Art Presents Support + Feed
As part of the Twin Cities Film Fest, Stephanie Dillon Art presents a free screening of new climate documentary, Overheated, followed by an art and fashion installation by Grant Whittaker. Overheated is a “bold and cerebral documentary showcases the beauty and fragility of the natural world, taking us on kaleidoscopic journey through the minds of some of the most prominent figures in music, fashion, food and climate activism.” Dillon’s shop (located across the street from the theater) will be open with her upcycled artwear and original paintings for sale, vintage and upcycled clothing from vintage seller Harlow James and candles from Flicker & Fizz with a percentage of proceeds going to Support & Feed, a nonprofit combating food insecurity and the climate crisis. It will be followed by “The Art of an Imperfect Activist,” a fashion and art installation with live modeling created and styled by Whittaker. Fashion Station
Produced by local streetwear brand D-E-S-I-G-N and creative director Isaiah King, this fashion show hosted by the St. Paul Union Depot presents a “fusion of Minnesota staples and modern streetwear clothing collections.” View fall collections from local labels D-E-S-I-G-N, Larissa Loden jewelry, Venci, Vahlt, and more, plus local retailers Rosedale Center, Ragstock and Primp. Spinelli Kilcollin Trunk Show
Spinelli Kilcollin launched in 2010 when husband-and-wife team Yves Spinelli and Dwyer Kilcollin created the first Galaxy Rings for each other. The linked, interconnected circles caught the attention of the duo’s friends who began requesting their own custom designs. Soon the highly customizable, signature design grew into a brand and has since expanded to include mixed metals, precious stone settings, and contemporary wedding jewelry. Wright County Swappers Meet
The WCSM is a farmers market, art fair, antique mall, garden center, sporting goods store and garage sale in South Haven, MN. Mill City Farmers Market
A mainstay since 2006, the Mill City Farmers Market is outdoors for the fall season every Saturday through October, after which point it heads indoors. Each event features 40+ local farmers, food makers and artisans with a goal of building a local, sustainable and organic food economy. Tonkadale Plant Swap
Meet and mingle while swapping plants and cuttings at this plant swap hosted at Tonkadale Greenhouse with Hannah Brand, dubbed “the Ultimate Plant Parent.” It’s $20 to reserve your spot, which includes a goodie bag, refreshments and one rare plant raffle ticket. Bekah Worley Art Show
This newsletter isn’t usually a place you’ll hear about art openings, but when they take place at an amazing local vintage shop, you do. Minneapolis artist Bekah Worley is debuting a new series of colorful, femme-forward, maximalist original paintings this weekend, and they’ll all be available for purchase in-person-only on Saturday and Sunday, and online beginning Monday, 10/24. Fresh Traditions Season XV: Power in Diversity + Arts & Crafts Fashion Expo
The Fresh Traditions Fashion Show is back. Presented by CHAT (Center for Hmong Arts & Talent), the annual show is a culturally inspired fashion event which exhibits the creativity, originality and quality of work by Hmong fashion designers. The Purple Ones 6: Prince-Inspired Fashion Show
The annual Prince-inspired fashion show is back for its fourth year with a group of Twin Cities fashion designers competing to win the top prize with their original fashion look inspired by a Prince song of their choice. Local fashion designer Joy Teiken has opened up the atelier and studio of her brand, Joynoelle, to host a series of fashion design workshops. New vintage collective store, Olio Vintage, is a unique collective of specialty vintage retailers brought together under one roof in Northeast Minneapolis. Home to a vintage-made-modern world of clothing, accessories, housewares, local handmade items and other fascinating gems, Olio will debut with a collective of four vintage brands: Black Nvni, SALTY, my own Rosella Vintage and in-house brand, Olio Vintage. Dubbed “an in-person experience place,” Together is a new shop in Northeast Minneapolis selling a mix of thoughtfully curated goods from small brands. Black Garnet Books
The only Black-owned bookstore in Minnesota, community member Dionne Sims launched Black Garnet Books two years ago online in direct response to state violence and to address racial inequality within the publishing and literary industries. Now, Sims has opened the shop’s first brick-and-mortar in St. Paul.
