Kobi Co. Candle Studio Soft Opening: Local, Black-owned candle maker, Kobi Co., hosts a soft opening for their candle studio in downtown Minneapolis. Run by a mother-daughter team, Kobi Co. candles are hand-poured luxury soy candles made in small batches with premium fragrance oils, plus bath salts, bath bombs, sprays and more. Full Moon Terrarium Class: Join Ms. Seedling at AudreyRose Vintage for a Full Moon terrarium class where you can charge your crystals, get a tarot reading and create a terrarium to take home with you. Explosion of Harmony Gallery Opening: Hewing Hotel hosts a gallery show featuring a group local artists showcasing what the concept of harmony means to them. Among those featured at local fashion designer Joy Teiken, who has explored this topic in the work for her label, Joynoelle, over the years. Her contribution to the show is a new, custom piece inspired by a past piece she did for her mycology-inspired 201x collection, which incorporates dyeing, hand pleating and sculptural draping techniques. Moth Oddities Store Moving Sale: Beloved Northeast vintage shop, Moth Oddities, has just announced it is moving to a larger, new location—and with that, a big storewide sale. It kicks off this weekend with 30% off storewide, and continues 4/13–4/16 at 50% off. The new location will be the former home of FindFurnish, which recently got its own larger location in Northeast. Grandpa's Closet Opening Weekend: Local vintage clothing seller Grandpa's Closet, which specializes in men's tees from the '80s and '90s, opens its first physical store this weekend. It will also feature a wide variety of casual men's clothing, plus women's clothing curated by vintage reseller Sustainability Freaks. House of KLynn Wedding Experience: Witness the debut of the House of KLynn’s new couture bridal line at this fashion showcase produced by Richard Moody. The brand is led by local couturier Kathryn Rogers, who has created couture clothing and accessories for feature films such as Hidden Figures, Passengers and Bessie, and has tailored for the likes of Zac Posen. Past collections featured a glittering mix of red carpet–worthy gowns, suits and jumpsuits, and jaw-dropping, operatic coats in gorgeous textiles. V-Show: Ignite: Hmong women’s student group VIIVNCAUS-HWG returns with its annual V-Show, a night filled of fashion and fun. Not Just for Dolls: Paper Dresses: A new mini exhibition on display in the back window case of McNeal Hall features some of the most iconic paper dresses produced, including the “Paper Caper” by Scott Paper Company, dresses by popular manufacturer Mars of Asheville, and the “Souper Dress!” Paper dresses, one of the first examples of fast fashion, came onto the market in 1966 thanks to a clever advertising campaign by the Scott Paper Company. While the fad quickly faded due to the earth-conscious hippie movement, advances in clothing manufacturing, and the fact that the paper garments became “dangerously flammable” after washing, they’re still an iconic piece of fashion history.
